Life as a Programmer

Computer programmer, system developer or simply programmer are person who write codes and create programs for computers.

When I was in high school, people around me spoke highly on programmers and commonly regarded them as intelligent and smart persons. Bill Gates who was also a programmer before, is declared as the wealthiest person living at that time. IT industry was just booming in our country and number of good programmer were very limited. I aspired to become one of them even if I didn’t possess a PC.

Because of the trend, I decided to pursue computer engineering to learn programming and computers. My expectation was met. I learned how to code and to build program in C language. I enjoyed a lot of coding and attempted to become the best programmer in my batch. When I was short financially, I used my newly gained knowledge to earn money. I catered requests from my schoolmates whenever they have projects that requires coding.

After I graduated from college, I became programmer in a local software company. At last, I reached my goal but I have to face challenges that each programmer must face. Learning new technology is crucial to every developers in the field. I tried to cope with my teammates to handle heavier tasks.

Funny but true!
Programmer’s Life

I enjoyed the days of being a programmer. As soon as my task items finished ahead of schedule, I can do whatever I want. I can relax, surf the internet, read articles and even watch movie. For self improvement, I can also study new technologies and methodologies. Of course, before anything else I must make sure that my code was running efficiently and without problem. I experienced lot of emotions, especially frustrations whenever my expectations were not met as the program run. There were times that I’m excited to implement and add new design items, only to found out that there was parts that were hard to implement.

If any major defects were found by the QA engineers, then it was a real horror. I have to fix it as soon as possible in order to meet their test deadline. Honestly, I hate QA for this but it couldn’t help since they were just doing their job. All I need to do was to do my best to code with least or no bug at all.

But change is inevitable. I am not a full time programmer anymore but in heart and mind, I’m still a programmer. Being one of them is very useful when I became analyst and freelancer.
